Geisinger Genetic Counselor II - Autism and Developmental Medicine (On-Site) in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

We are seeking an on-site Genetic Counselor to join our multidisciplinary clinical and research team at Geisinger's Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute (ADMI) in beautiful Lewisburg, PA and other sites in central Pennsylvania. In collaboration with nearby Bucknell University, ADMI's vision is to expand and integrate clinical services, research, education, and family support for children and adults with autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. This Genetic Counselor has the opportunity to serve as the ADMI Team Lead with the right expertise. Licensed Genetic Counselors with work experience in the areas of medical genetics and genetic counseling who work as members of health care and research teams, providing information and support to families, individuals considering genetic testing, and to individuals participating or considering participating in research to provide the highest level of patient care, demonstrate research integrity, and maximize patient and research participant satisfaction. Serve in leadership roles as consultants, educators and resources for other health care professionals and the general public. Manage research projects and clinical programs related to the field of medical genetics, genetic testing, genetic counseling, and bioethics.

Job Duties

  • Provide clinical genetic counseling services as part of a developmental medicine, psychology, neuroscience, and genomics team

  • Coordinate and grow genetics specialty clinics for: Fragile X related disorders, 22q11.2 deletions and duplications, duplication 15q syndrome, and Smith-Magenis syndrome

  • Participate in research projects involving developmental brain disorders

  • Gain clinical expertise within a nationally-recognized neurodevelopmental institute

  • Participating in onboarding, training, mentorship of new Genetic Counselors and Genomic Medical Assistants.

  • Clinical Supervision of new hires during onboarding.

  • Supervision of Genomic Medicine Assistants.

  • Implement specific institutional initiative(s) to improve genetic counseling and testing services.

  • Coordination of specialty clinics within a clinical domain and in other medical specialties.

  • Manage two or more research initiatives or projects.

  • Lead project management (implementation and coordination, including IRB protocol management) within the defined scope of the supervising faculty member's research program.

  • Significant contribution to publication authorship.

  • One or more defined research interests/area.

  • Supervision of students and coordination of student rotations.

  • Educate the public through media requests.

  • Lecturer for a genetic counselor other medical providers or undergraduate education program.

  • Leadership role in one or more educational initiatives.

  • Leadership in state and national professional organization sub-committees and special interest groups.
