Geisinger Payroll Tax Lead (work from home Eastern United States resident) in Danville, Pennsylvania

Job Summary

Manages the payroll tax administration process for the Geisinger system. Responsible for compliance with payroll-related tax regulations for federal, state, local and unemployment employee and employer taxes. Assures tax deposits and returns are accurate and filed on a timely basis. Responsible for compliance with the Legal Department's records retention policy as it relates payroll tax returns and other tax documentation.

Job Duties

  • Develops and maintains up-to-date functional and technical expertise in assigned areas of financial systems including Workday.

  • Develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge of payroll-related federal and state laws, such as wage and hour laws and tax withholding regulations.

  • Primary contact for third-party tax administrator ADP.

  • Works closely with Tax Department to establish new tax accounts prior to taxes being withheld from employees' paychecks.

  • Notifies Payroll Administrator of new tax authorities and deductions that need to be established in the payroll system.

  • Updates ADP's Smart Compliance portal with tax account changes, such as adding new accounts, updating changes to tax rates and filing frequencies, and closing tax accounts.

  • Reconciles periodic tax filing reports wit h ADP integrations on a pa y period basis.

  • Responds to any issues and resolves variances. Assures tax deposits are made timely and accurately.

  • Oversees activity of tax service provider by logging into online tax accounts and reviewing deposits.

  • Provides tax funding reports to Financial Reporting.

  • Responsible for the timely filing of Pennsylvania local earned income taxes withheld from employee paychecks under PA Act 32.

  • Monitors and verifies quarterly tax filings. Saves copies of completed tax returns into a Geisinger repository so that data is properly retained in compliance with the organization's records retention policy.

  • Perform research to determine taxability of non-resident alien employees. Assures necessary documentation is received for non-resident aliens.

  • Works to resolve Pennsylvania local income tax authority issues that error during bot processing.

  • Builds effective partnerships with Tax, Financial Reporting and Treasury Operations to quickly resolve issues and to implement process improvements.

  • Continually seeks out process improvement and automation opportunities to increase overall department efficiency.

  • Provides recommendations to Payroll Director for approval. Once approved, establish implementation plan and oversee tasks through to completion.

Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)- (Required)

Experience
