J OB SUMMARY :
The Patient Access Representative facilitates a welcome and easy access to the facility and is responsible for establishing an encounter for any patient who meets the guidelines for hospital service. The PAR ensures that all data entry is accurate, including demographic and financial information for each account. The PAR has numerous procedural requirements, including data elements, insurance verification, and authorization for services; collections for all patient portions; and balancing of cash at shift end. The PAR communicates directly with patients and families, physicians, nurses, insurance companies, and third party payers. This position requires critical thinking skills, ability to work in high-stress situations, professional appearance, behavior, good communication skills, dependability, flexibility, and teamwork. This Revenue Cycle PAR will be cross trained to be assigned in the various areas – Central registration, Admissions, and Emergency Department.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Completes Epic ADT Patient Placement functions if assigned.
Must act in accordance to disaster preparedness plan/actual disaster protocol. Utilize the VOLO in conjunction with the Paging System for disaster codes. Utilize the Paging System for calling codes, alerts, fire alarms, etc. as directed. Participate in HazMat.
Demonstrates competence in oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
Must maintain confidentiality.
Demonstrates intermediate office skills.
Demonstrates competence in customer service skills.
Requires critical thinking skills.
Demonstrates the ability to work in high-stress situations.
Must be assertive. Shows initiative in confirming patient demographic and health insurance information with each patient.

Demonstrates the ability to work weekends and holidays is required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Minimum of one (1) year experience in an office setting, customer service industry, healthcare environment, patient registration, financial counseling, billing, and collections preferred.
Successfully completes Revenue Cycle training program..
W ORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a hospital Registration Department, Emergency Department setting which may require repetitive visits to numerous patient care locations to complete bedside registrations.
