JOB TITLE: Orthopaedic Research Fellow

Our Research Fellowship programs are one to two year commitments. Research opportunities exist in clinical trials, outcome studies, micro-vascular, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and neutrophil/inflammation studies. Our research fellows work directly with our research team and faculty on a number of ongoing studies. You will have the opportunity to be involved with writing and editing manuscripts in addition to poster presentations at national conferences.

Reports to the assigned staff physicians within Orthopaedics the Primary Investigators for orthopaedic research.


Demonstrates strong working knowledge of medical terminology.

Demonstrates current knowledge of GCP and ICH guidelines, definitions and reporting requirements for adverse events, IRRB issues and guidelines, elements of informed consent, FDA codes and regulatory issues.

Demonstrates computer literacy in a MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ACCESS plus internet use.

Demonstrates excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively interact with all levels of staff, external sponsors, and research subjects.

Demonstrates ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.

Demonstrates ability to handle multiple projects and meet timelines in a dynamic workplace environment.

Demonstrates the ability to write English fluently.


Ph.D. in biological sciences or M.D required.

Research experience or demonstration of research interest is required.


Work is typically performed in an office environment. Independent travel to regional clinics and meetings may be required.

Work at the site of the research participant contact (clinic site, hospital units, emergency room) is required.

GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER: (GMC), located Danville, Pa., the largest tertiary/quaternary care teaching hospital in the region, is licensed for 475 beds, including 89 pediatric beds in the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. GMC, a Magnet Hospital, maintains the region’s only Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center with additional qualifications in pediatrics. GMC offers an array of highly specialized medical and surgical services, including neurosciences, cardiovascular services, transplantation, women’s health (in the Women’s Pavilion), oncology and orthopaedics. The Hospital for Advanced Medicine serves as an integrated center for the most critical patients. Outpatient services are available on and off campus.
