Work Type: PART TIME (64hrs/biweekly)
Provides primary clinical support to the provider, patient and their family to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition in the urgent care setting. Follows up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing of same in medical record to ensure continuity and quality of care. Promotes a clean environment. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in specific age range on their assigned clinical area.
Works under the general direction of the Site Lead for daily operational issues and reports directly the Director of Nursing.
Performs duties to provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
*1. Obtains and documents patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs and
provides basic medical data base for the provider, and prepares patient for examinations.
*2. Provides direct clinical care as directed by the provider.
*3. Assists provider in performance of minor surgical diagnostic procedures and
ancillary diagnostic examinations as directed by provider to facilitate accurate
*4. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens (blood, urine, sputum, wound secretions)
and completes associated paperwork (request slips, lab log, container labels, billing
documents) to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
*5. Matches all incoming laboratory reports, radiology interpretations, consultation
reports, and diagnostic examination results with patient's medical record to create a
complete and accurate medical record.
- Under the direction of the provider assists with orientation of new personnel to ensure that they are appropriately trained to support patients and provider.
*7. Executes and documents ongoing patient communication, as directed by provider,
prioritizes communications to the provider, responds to patient questions and requests to ensure efficient use of provider time and timely response to patient's needs.
*8. Reviews and reinforces instruction as directed by provider to ensure patient's
understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
*9. Inserts, monitors, regulates and discontinues IVs as required by provider and per scope of practice.
*10. Administers medications and vaccines including intradermal/skin testing under the
direction of a provider and per scope of practice.
- Inventories medical/surgical supplies and pharmaceuticals to
ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, documentation utilization,
optimize organizational efficiency and space utilization.
- May clean, sterilize (when appropriate) and prepare instruments, according to
established protocols, to ensure required level of asepsis and adequate availability.
*13. Routinely inspects/observes condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and
instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify need for preventive and/or
corrective maintenance. May assist in specific laboratory functions as defined by CLIA
relative to the testing, reporting, and quality assurance of laboratory specimens as
trained and directed by the provider.
*14. Cleans/sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases, ensures required
level of asepsis, availability of appropriate instruments and equipment, and preparation of patient.
*15. Keeps current with policies and procedures and participates in quality improvement
- Responsible for actively participating in patient safety improvement and management program. An active participant:
a. Assumes responsibility for identifying processes or systems that could potentially lead to errors and adverse events.
b. Knows and follows organizational and departmental policies and procedures applicable to assigned duties.
c. Participates in required organizational and departmental patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational patient safety.
d. Promptly reports serious events and incidents in accordance with established hospital policy and procedure.
Provides directional and other general information to patients; as necessary, assures all services have been provided before the patient leaves.
Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational
reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES:
*1. Greets patients and families. Obtains all required demographic and insurance information as well as signatures to create an accurate registration record.
*2. May be responsible for completion of all forms necessary for registration and claims adjudication. Collects HIPAA and Universal Authorization information when required.
*3. Verifies active insurance coverage through applicable tools including websites (i.e.
*4. Responsible for cash or co-pay collection. As required, maintains cash fund; balances fund daily; prepares deposit; reports cash, check, and credit/debit card transactions.
*5. May evaluate charges to determine those covered by insurance and those that are the patient's responsibility; provides cashiering service to the patient; approaches the patient for collectible charges and issues a cash receipt when payment is made; obtains insurance data for third party reimbursement policies; assures insurance forms are signed and dated.
- May receive all paper forms containing patient information; prepare a coversheet; and pack for scanning.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of accredited practical nursing program with current PA license required OR graduate of accredited Medical Assistant program with MA certification preferred.
Must be qualified to pass medications. Must be BLS certified.
One year prior nursing experience required.
Medical/surgical, emergency department or clinic related experience preferred.
Phlebotomy experience preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a clinic environment. May require travel to employer
site(s) and to other CareWorks sites.
